Repair Commitment
Paid repair and refinishing for any owner, including older sculptures, for as long as Axel Decor operates. Materials, shipping, and labor are quoted first.
Read the detailsApplies to serialized Axel Decor sculptures made on or after August 2026. Structural and finish coverage belongs to the original purchaser. Older sculptures and later owners can use the paid Repair Commitment.
2. Lifetime Limited Structural Warranty
What is covered. For as long as the original purchaser owns the sculpture, I warrant every weld, joint, and structural element against failure — cracking, separation, fracture, or loss of structural integrity — under normal outdoor or indoor display conditions.
What I will do. At my election: repair the sculpture, or replace it with a piece of the same model, size and finish. I pay for the repair or replacement, for return shipping to my studio, and for shipping back to you.
3. Five-Year Limited Finish Warranty
What is covered. For five years from the date of delivery, I warrant the coating system against peeling, blistering, flaking, cracking, or delamination from the steel.
What I will do. At my election: refinish the affected area, refinish the sculpture, or replace it. I pay for the work and for shipping in both directions.
What is not covered — stated plainly. Fading, gloss loss, and gradual color change are not covered, and no honest maker can cover them. Ultraviolet light degrades every organic coating that exists. A red will soften. A gloss will flatten. Anyone who tells you their outdoor finish will never fade is either mistaken or is counting on you not checking in year six.
What I can control is whether the coating stays attached, and that is what this warranty is about. The prep behind it: corrosion-inhibiting primer on bare abraded steel, every cut edge given a radius so the film cannot thin out and fail along the edge, a water-break test before any coating goes on, and a hard four-hour limit between the final solvent wipe and the first coat so nothing is ever painted over flash rust.
What this warranty does not promise. It does not promise the sculpture will never rust. The steel is sealed under primer, color, and a 2K clear coat. That makes it weather resistant, not rust-proof. Wherever the coating is broken, by a chip, a deep scratch, or a clear coat worn thin, the steel underneath can rust. Section 10 explains how to keep that from happening and what to do when it does. The Rustic finish is steel that has been deliberately rusted, then sealed under the same 2K clear.
Coverage on a sculpture already sold will not be shortened retroactively.
4. The Repair Commitment
This is not a warranty. It is a standing offer, and it has no end date.
For as long as Axel Decor operates, I will repair, refinish, re-weld, re-anchor, or restore any sculpture I have made, regardless of:
- How old it is. Ten years, forty years, longer.
- Who owns it. Original purchaser, second owner, an inheritor, someone who bought it at an estate sale and looked up the serial number.
- Whether the damage is my fault. A tree fell on it. A truck backed into it. A previous owner painted it the wrong color. It sat in a field for fifteen years. None of that closes the door.
- Whether the warranty has expired. The warranty and this commitment are separate things.
What it costs. Materials, shipping both ways, and my time at a shop rate quoted before any work begins. You approve the quote or you do not. There is no obligation and no charge for the estimate.
What you get back. The same sculpture, not a replacement — repaired by the person who cut and welded it in the first place, with the original serial intact and the repair recorded against it in the build log.
What I need from you. The serial number, marked on the underside of the base, and photographs. That is the whole intake.
4.1 Succession
I am one person. I will not be here in a hundred years, and a promise that ignores that is not worth much.
So: if Axel Decor ever changes hands, ceases operating, or I become unable to do the work, the build log — every serial, every finish, every coating batch, every owner on record — transfers with the studio, and this commitment transfers with it. If there is no successor, I will publish the specifications: exact coating system, primer, finish and clear per serial, so that any competent metal shop can do the work correctly without guessing.
A record that outlives the maker is the only version of this promise that is honest.
5. What is not covered
Neither warranty in Sections 2 and 3 covers:
- Normal fading, gloss loss, or color change from sun exposure. See Section 3.
- Rust originating at a chip, scratch, gouge, or impact point that was not repaired. A chip left open lets moisture under the surrounding coating, and the corrosion then spreads beneath a film that still looks intact. Touch chips up promptly; touch-up finish is available from me at any time.
- Abrasive or chemical damage — scouring pads, wire brushes, solvent cleaners, oven cleaner, acid washes, or pressure washing.
- Salt-water and salt-air exposure within one mile of salt water, on a sculpture not built to the Coastal Specification (Section 6). Salt is a different environment and a standard coating system is not rated for it.
- Modification, refinishing, or repair by anyone other than me, including repainting, cutting, drilling, or welding. Exception: the annual clear coat refresh described in Section 10, and touch-up done with finish I supply, are expected owner maintenance and never affect coverage.
- Standing water damage on a sculpture installed so that water cannot drain, or freeze damage resulting from it.
- Force majeure and casualty — fire, flood, earthquake, falling trees, vehicle impact, storm debris, vandalism, theft. These are insurance events, not defects. The Repair Commitment in Section 4 still applies to all of them.
- Transit damage. Handled separately and immediately — see Section 8.3.
- Sculptures made before August 2026, which carry no serial number. Those are covered by Section 4 and by my judgment, which has been generous for six years and will stay that way.
6. Coastal Specification
Within one mile of salt water, the standard finish warranty does not apply. Salt air is a harsher environment and I will not write a warranty I cannot honor.
What it is. A sculpture ordered to Coastal Specification gets one additional full pass of 2K urethane clear coat over the standard system, applied in the studio before it ships, with extra attention to cut edges, leaf tips, and the underside of the base.
What it covers. A Coastal Specification sculpture carries the full five-year finish warranty at an address within one mile of salt water, on one condition: the clear coat is refreshed every 12 months as described in Section 10. Any 2K urethane clear coat satisfies that condition; you are not required to use a particular brand.
What it costs. It is priced by size, because clear coat usage tracks surface area. Email the studio for a quote before checkout.
How to order it. Specify it at the time of order, before the piece ships. On axeldecor.us, email me before you check out and I will invoice it with your sculpture.
Already own a piece near the coast? Refresh the clear coat every 12 months (Section 10) and rinse it with plain water once a month. If the finish has already started to fail, a studio re-clear falls under the Repair Commitment in Section 4.
7. The record
Every sculpture made from August 2026 forward carries a serial number marked on the underside of its base:
AXEL DECOR · LOS ANGELES
AD-A36-26041
Behind that number, in my build log, sits the date it was built, the size and finish, the primer and clear coat used and their batch numbers, the date it shipped, and where it went. If a coating batch ever turns out to be defective, I can identify every piece it touched. If you send me a photograph in 2041, I know exactly what I am looking at.
Registration is not required for warranty coverage. Your warranty is valid whether or not you register. What registration does is make service immediate: I have your serial, your address, your climate and your exposure already on file, so a claim takes one email instead of a search.
Without registration you will need the serial number and reasonable proof of purchase. That is not a penalty; it is simply what has to substitute for a record.
Email axeldecorla@gmail.com to add your sculpture to the record. Online registration is not required.
8. Making a claim
8.1 What to send
Email axeldecorla@gmail.com with:
- The serial number from the underside of the base
- Photographs — one of the whole sculpture, and two or three close on the problem
- A sentence about where it lives — full sun, covered patio, distance from the coast, and roughly how long it has been there
8.2 What happens next
I respond within three business days. Most finish questions are resolved from photographs. If the piece needs to come back to Los Angeles, I arrange and pay for freight on a covered warranty claim, and I quote it in advance on a Section 4 repair.
There is no claim form, no case number, and no call center. You are emailing the person who made it.
8.3 Transit damage — a separate and faster process
If a sculpture arrives damaged, this is not a warranty claim and you should not wait.
Photograph the box before unpacking any further, then email me as soon as possible, ideally the same day. I replace or repair it and deal with the carrier myself. You are not responsible for pursuing a freight claim, and this applies regardless of the warranty terms above.
Please report transit damage within seven days of delivery under the Shipping and Refund Policies.
9. Transfer
The Structural and Finish warranties in Sections 2 and 3 are extended to the original purchaser and do not transfer.
The Repair Commitment in Section 4 belongs to the sculpture and transfers with it, permanently.
If you have acquired a piece secondhand or received one as a gift, send me the serial number and I will add you to the record for that piece. Doing so costs nothing, obligates you to nothing, and means you will be reachable if I ever need to tell you something about the coating batch on your sculpture.
10. Care
Every sculpture ships sealed under a 2K urethane clear coat. Keep the coating intact with these four habits.
1. Clean with plain water only. Rinse or wipe with plain water and a soft cloth or soft brush once or twice a year inland, and monthly within one mile of salt water. Rinse sprinkler deposits promptly and aim sprinklers away from the sculpture. Do not use soap, household cleaners, solvents, abrasive cleaning tools, or a pressure washer.
2. Refresh the clear coat every 12 months. Use a compatible 2K urethane clear in the correct sheen. Matte Black uses matte clear; all other finishes use gloss. The annual refresh is expected maintenance and does not itself affect warranty coverage. Any brand of compatible 2K urethane clear satisfies the coastal maintenance condition. Contact the studio for the finish specification or a studio re-clear quote before work begins. Isocyanate-containing 2K coatings require specialist spraying controls; the studio or a qualified refinisher should handle application. Refer to the coating manufacturer's current technical and safety instructions.
3. Repair chips the week they happen. Email a photograph and your serial number to axeldecorla@gmail.com for matching touch-up finish and repair guidance. If rust has started, ask the studio to assess the area before refinishing it.
4. Give it drainage. Keep water moving away from the base and adjust the installation if a hollow or corner holds water after rain. The illustrated care routine is at Care Guide.
11. Legal terms
This is a Limited Warranty, as that term is used in the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act.
Implied warranties. Any implied warranties, including the implied warranty of merchantability and of fitness for a particular purpose, are limited in duration to the duration of the applicable written warranty stated above. Some states do not allow limitations on how long an implied warranty lasts, so this limitation may not apply to you.
Incidental and consequential damages. Axel Decor's liability under this warranty is limited to the repair or replacement of the sculpture as described above. Incidental and consequential damages are excluded to the extent permitted by law. Some states do not allow the exclusion or limitation of incidental or consequential damages, so this exclusion may not apply to you.
Your rights. This warranty gives you specific legal rights, and you may also have other rights which vary from state to state.
Governing law. This warranty is governed by the laws of the State of California.
Territory. These warranties apply to sculptures delivered within the United States. Outside the United States, Sections 2 and 3 cover parts and labor only; the purchaser is responsible for freight and any customs charges in both directions. Section 4 applies worldwide on the same terms.
12. Definitions
Sculpture — a steel work made by Axel Decor bearing an Axel Decor serial number.
Original purchaser — the person or entity that bought the sculpture directly from Axel Decor or from an Axel Decor sales channel, including Etsy and axeldecor.us.
Delivery date — the carrier's recorded delivery date, or where none exists, the ship date plus seven days.
Structural failure — cracking, separation, or fracture of a weld or joint, or loss of the sculpture's ability to stand as designed, absent impact or force majeure.
Coating failure — loss of adhesion between the coating system and the steel, or between coats, appearing as peeling, blistering, flaking, or delamination. Fading, chalking, and gloss reduction are not coating failures.
At cost — documented materials and freight, plus shop time at the rate quoted and accepted before work begins.
